Tanzania: World of Fauna

Rukwa Game Reserve

Rukwa Game Reserve is located in Sumbawanga District, Rukwa Region. It is established by 1971 with total covers area of 5 000 km².  Uwanda Game Reserve also known as Uwanda Rukwa Game Reserve is a reserve of the Rukwa Valley of south-western Tanzania. The basic ecotouristic information on Uwanda Game Reserve in Tanzania which can be visited together with Albatros Travel and Expeditions localization, access, characteristic, fauna and flora, possible activities in the game reserve. It starts with a simple overview of Uwanda, including links to external databases such as WDPA, Ramsar, Birdlife International, World Heritage, UNESCO and Google Earth. The best time to visit the park is during the dry season from March to October, even though the wildlife may be seen in larger concentrations during wet seasons. It is also the place where one can see albino giraffes, unusually-stripped zebra, and spiral-horned antelopes related to the Uganda kobs.

 

The Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park

The Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park (MBREMP) is located in the Mtwara Rural District of the Mtwara. It was established on 1 July 2000 with total area of 650 km². The park extends from the northern portion of the Ruvuma Estuary to Mnazi Bay, including the headland of Ras Msangamkuu. The largest tracts of mangrove forests in the park are in the Ruvuma Delta. The reefs offer superb snorkeling and diving, especially on Ruvula Reef, off the north end of Msimbati Peninsula, which slopes steeply right up. Some of the best diving in Tanzania is found within the Marine Park and includes spectacular outer reef drop offs, extensive spur and groove formations, channel and patch reefs. The easiest beach to access is just beyond Msimbati village and the park gate, though it’s used by fishermen for peeling prawns and cleaning fish. This has created an over dependence on marine resources and the persistent use of destructive fishing methods.

 

Mafia Island Marine Park

Mafia Island Marine Park is a protected area in the environs of Mafia Island south of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean known as the Mafia Archipelago. It is established in 1 July 1995 the Mafia Island Marine Park was formed to protect the archipelago’s reefs with the total area of 882 km². It is the southern most of three islands (Pemba & Zanzibar) located off the coast of Tanzania. Mafia Island is located in the magnificent southern circuit of Tanzania. The park is located between the Rufiji River delta to the west and the open Indian Ocean to the east. The Kinasi Lodge and Pole Pole each have small sections of beach in front of them, with protecting mangroves around.

 

Saanane Island National Park

Saanane Island National Park is located 2 km south-west from the Mwanza City Centre. It is established in 2013 and the total area of 2.18 km2. The amazement of Saanane Island as a National Park is a result of the resolution to establish the park passed by the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania October last year. The island was given the status to be Game Reserve in 1991.Saa Nane Island is a small wildlife sanctuary situated on a tiny rocky island in Lake Victoria. These include:  Zebra, Impala, Black Rhino, Topi, Warthog, Monkeys, Buffalo, Bushbuck, Dik Dik, Elephant and Wildebeest like Vervet and Patas, Giraffe, crocodiles and Porcupine.

 

The Chyulu Hills National Park

The Chyulu Hills National Park is a mountain range in Kenya. Chyulu Hills National Park Framing the vast plains of Tsavo and lying within view of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, are the Taita and Chyulu Hills. These are forms a 100 km long volcanic field in elongated NW-SE direction here. The snow covered peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro are clearly visible from the crest of the Chyulu Hills and rising in the distance beyond spectacular views over rolling plains of fertile volcanic soil. The Park comprises the eastern flanks of Chyulu Hills including about half the forest area.
